The Priory in Caerleon announces summer line-up of outdoor dining, wine tasting and pop-up cinema events

Located on the River Usk in the historic town of Caerleon – and once a 12th-century Cistercian monastery – The Priory is one of South Wales’ most unique hospitality venues; over the centuries, it has been a nunnery, a private residence, and since 1996, a cherished family-run hotel and restaurant.

In three decades of family ownership, The Priory has evolved significantly. Operated by Benito Martinez and his wife Sophie as part of the Fire & Wine group, the bar and restaurant underwent an extensive refurbishment in late 2024, and most recently entered a new culinary era with the appointment of Chef Grady Atkins, whose international experience spans Michelin-starred kitchens and luxury hotels.

Now heading into another summer season, The Priory has announced a new line-up of food, wine, champagne and live fire cooking events – starting this weekend and running until mid-August.

Held in the venue’s gardens and beneath its beautiful canvas stretch tent, the programme brings together relaxed summer parties, special dining experiences, live sport, outdoor cinema nights and wine-led events designed to make the most of The Priory’s unique setting.

The summer line-up includes:

AIX ROSÉ PARTY / 11th July

Sip, savour and soak it all in! Relax under the stretch tent at The Priory for an afternoon of AIX Rosé, handcrafted canapés and live music out on the lawn. Sixty minutes of free-flowing pure Provence rosé, canapés and live music are included in the ticket price at £45 per person.

WIMBLEDON MEN’S FINAL / 12th July

Relax under the stretch tent at The Priory and watch the Men’s Wimbledon Final, accompanied by a bottle or two of delicious Rathfinny English Sparkling Wine, and a full bar food and drink menu available. Tickets are £15 per person including a welcome glass of bubbles and a strawberry pavlova treat. The match start time is 4pm (arrive any time from 3pm).

BASTILLE CHAMPAGNE PARTY / 17th July

An evening of French-inspired indulgence, set beneath the stretch tent on The Priory lawn. From 5pm on Friday 17th July, enjoy a specially curated 5-course menu crafted for the occasion, paired with a welcome drink on arrival and a full 60 minutes of free-flowing Champagne Devaux Cuvée D. 

 Each ticket includes everything: the welcome drink, all five courses, and the Champagne reception. There will also be live music all evening from the very talented Tomos Lewis.£95 per person.

SMOKED & OAKED WINE DINNER WITH ULTRACOMIDA / 24th July

This annual collaboration with Ultracomida is a highlight of the summer calendar! The evening features a five-course menu showcasing The Priory’s love of fire cooking alongside a gorgeous Spanish wine pairing curated and guided by Adam & Jack, with live music throughout from the very talented Nick Pendry. 

There are also Champagne Afternoon Tea events, ‘A Taste of Catalunya’, and a series of outdoor cinema nights to look forward to as the summer progresses; film titles, dates and booking details will go live at www.thepriorycaerleon.co.uk/events in the coming weeks.
