90s Rock Band Placebo 30th Anniversary Tour Comes To Cardiff

Legendary alternative rock band Placebo are heading to Cardiff this winter as part of their 30th anniversary celebrations, with a huge arena show confirmed for 7th December at Utilita Arena Cardiff.

The tour marks three decades since the release of their groundbreaking 1996 debut album, a record that helped define Placebo as one of the most distinctive and uncompromising bands of their generation.

To celebrate, the band are releasing Placebo RE:CREATED, a new version of that debut album, landing on 19th June 2026. Rather than simply re-recording it, the band have revisited the original master tapes, reworking and expanding the songs to reflect how they have evolved over years of live performances.

Fans heading to the Cardiff show can expect a set packed with early material, including tracks from both Placebo and Without You I’m Nothing, with some songs reportedly returning to the live set for the first time in over 20 years.

When Placebo first arrived in the mid-90s, they stood apart from the Britpop scene that dominated at the time. While much of British guitar music leaned into nostalgia and laddish culture, Placebo explored themes of identity, sexuality, addiction and alienation, building a loyal following that connected with their honest and often confrontational sound.

Thirty years on, those themes still feel relevant, and the anniversary tour is not just a look back, but a reminder of how forward-thinking the band were, and still are.

The Cardiff date forms part of a wider UK and European arena run, which will see the band perform to huge crowds across 36 shows, closing out the tour on home soil.

For fans in Wales, the 7th December show at Utilita Arena Cardiff offers a rare chance to hear some of Placebo’s most influential early material live again, brought up to date with the energy and experience of a band that has spent three decades evolving its sound.
