What’s On in Cardiff: March 2026

Spring starts here

March in Cardiff is a turning point. The city moves from winter hibernation into lighter evenings, packed venues and an events calendar that suddenly feels full again. With St David’s Day kicking things off and the arrival of both meteorological spring (1 March) and the spring equinox later in the month, there’s a sense of fresh energy everywhere.

St David’s Day & Seasonal Moments

March begins with Welsh pride front and centre. This year Cardiff Music City are celebrating St David’s Day with a weekend of great Welsh music in some of our favourite grassroots venues, explore the city through music and experience Cardiff Market with the return of the popular Market Nights and the St David’s Day Run in Bute Park gets the month moving, while the city fills with daffodils, flags and celebrations marking Wales’s patron saint.

As daylight stretches further into the evening, this is also the month where outdoor socials begin to reappear. Keep an eye on moon phases too, with community swim groups like Moon Mermaids often planning dips around full moon dates, adding a little lunar magic to early spring.

Major Shows & Theatre Highlights

Cardiff’s big stages are busy in March, with touring productions bringing West End energy to the city.

At the Wales Millennium Centre, highlights include Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes(3–7 March), a visually spectacular dance production based on the classic film and Mean Girls: The Musical (10–14 March), the hit stage adaptation bringing sharp comedy and big musical numbers to the Bay.

The New Theatre adds to the line-up with touring productions and live music, including a headline show from Lily Allen, performing material from her latest tour on 18 March.

Live Music & Comedy

March is strong for live nights out, with something happening almost every week.

Expect big arena energy at Utilita Arena with artists and entertainers including Bonnie TylerMartin Kemp (80s DJ set at Depot), Greg Davies and Romesh Ranganathan.

From nostalgic DJ nights to big comedy tours and pop performances, it’s very much a “pick your vibe” month.

Sport & Big Crowd Energy

March keeps the sporting atmosphere high. Six Nations rugby continues to dominate pub screens and city buzz, while live fixtures across rugby, football and ice hockey keep weekends lively.

Highlights include Wales v Italy at the Principality Stadium, the Harlem Globetrotters, The 100 Year TourCardiff Devils games and Premier League Darts all contributing to that unmistakable Cardiff match-day feel.

Cinema, Culture & Smaller Gems

Alongside big tours and sporting weekends, March also offers new cinema releases with Hoppers & The Bride! Reminders of him & How to make a killing and Project Hail Mary, jazz sessions and charity events such as Dip or Distance at Llanishen Reservoir, perfect for quieter evenings out or something a little different.

The Feel of March

March is Cardiff shaking off winter. The daffodils arrive, venues fill up, terraces start to reappear and the city feels lighter, louder and ready for spring.

If February was the warm-up, March is the main event.
