Cardiff audiences are about to be transported back to the summer of 1995, a year that changed British music forever.
It was the moment Britpop reached boiling point. Two of the UK’s biggest bands – Blur and Oasis – released singles on the very same day, sparking one of the most infamous chart battles in music history. What followed was more than just a race to No. 1. It became a cultural war that split the nation: were you Team Blur or Team Oasis?
This rivalry forms the heart of The Battle, a sharp-witted new comedy that dives headfirst into the chaos, competitiveness and sheer madness of the Britpop era. From the anarchy of the Brit Awards to tabloid feuds and fractured friendships, it captures the swagger, the excess and the egos that defined a generation.
At its core, The Battle is about more than music – it’s a story of power, pride and personalities too big to be contained. Expect razor-sharp dialogue, filthy humour, and a no-holds-barred look at the egos behind the anthems.

Leading the cast is Mathew Horne (best known for Gavin & Stacey), taking on the role of the music industry executive who lit the fuse on the race to the top of the charts. With his trademark comedic flair, Horne guides the audience through the mayhem, the mania, and the music that made the mid-90s one of the most explosive moments in pop culture.
For fans who lived through it – and for anyone who wants to know what all the fuss was about – The Battle promises a night of nostalgia, laughter and rock ’n’ roll rivalries brought vividly to life on stage.
