The Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival is a highly anticipated event that has been captivating the hearts and minds of children and families alike for nearly a decade.

With a diverse range of authors and illustrators from across the UK, the festival offers an immersive experience that encourages a love of reading and creativity in young people.

The festival offers a jam-packed programme of events, with something to suit every child’s interests. Whether your child is an avid reader, budding writer, or simply loves to explore new worlds, the festival has something to offer.

There are workshops where children can learn to create their own characters, stories and illustrations, as well as interactive readings and talks from popular children’s authors and illustrators.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]One of the highlights of the festival is the opportunity to meet and interact with some of the biggest names in children’s literature. Previous festivals have featured renowned authors such as Michael Rosen, Dame Jacqueline Wilson, and Chris Riddell. Children have the chance to ask questions, get their books signed and take photos with their literary heroes.

Already announced for this year festival , the opportunity to celebrate 30 years of Horrible Histories with illustrator, Martin Brown. Get a beastly introduction to the adventures of 511-year-old Ebenezer Tweezer and orphan Bethany with Jack Meggitt-Phillips. Climb aboard a pirate ship and set sail on a riveting adventure with Iszi Lawrence. Or learn about life size nature and fascinating animal facts with Sophy Henn.

The festival also offers a unique opportunity for children to experience bilingualism in action. With events presented in both English and Welsh, the festival celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Wales, and encourages children to engage with the Welsh language in a fun and interactive way.

The festival is designed to be a family-friendly event, with plenty of activities for children of all ages. Events currently confirmed for the festival include:

  • Go Book wandering with Anna James, as the author of the Pages & Co series talks about her love of books and the places around the world that have shaped her stories, including the latest Pages & Co adventure,The Treehouse Library.
  • Meet the very WORST Vikings in the village! Prepare yourself for anarchy, mischief and total chaos as Francesca Simon and Steve May introduce the third instalment in theirTwo Terrible Vikingsseries.
  • Join illustrator Huw Aaron as he shares tips and tricks on creating your own magical worlds, weird monsters and legendary adventures as we ask ‘Ble mae Boc?’
  • When Blanksy the cat discovers a talent for painting murals he uses it to draw bigger and bigger crowds to help his friend Pete the busker become rich. But will money really make Pete happy?’ Find out with author Gavin Puckett and Blanksy the Street Cat.
  • Discover some mind-blowing animal facts and see how you measure up against some of the world’s most amazing creatures and dinosaurs on this journey through author and illustrator Sophy Henn’s Life size series.
