Review : When darkness falls – a ghost story

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]When one hears the words ‘ghost story’ it sets a certain sense of excitement and upon entering the theatre this was met by a general sense of expectation and trepidation. The stage itself did not disappoint as it was dimly lit to give a spooky, ghostly edge and with a very detailed set which included a kitchen, workspace, chalkboard all of which to give the appearance of a teacher’s room in a college which upon first glance seems abandoned, the perfect setting to unease the audience![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28681″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]et on the island of Guernsey during a storm, the beginning scene was carried very well by a lone history teacher (Peter Duncan) who is also a paranormal nonbeliever Duncan displayed an impressive ability to keep the audience engaged by being very active on stage during his solo performance. His eccentric character, slightly awkward at times was very well acted.Following on from this a paranormal expert joins the teacher on stage and proceeds to regalea few ghost stories from the local area. Cleverly written in order to draw your attention to the duo on stage, you could hear a pin drop as we waited with bated breath to be scared.

The show builds in pace and has a few jump scare moments, helped by sound effects to really build the tension in the theatre. Special effects such as lights flickering and chair sliding across the stage also add to the eerie feel. The paranormal expert tells a series of ghost stories, each making you question your belief in the supernatural and drawing you in deeper to the darkness a true ghost story creates.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”28680″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]The fact this show contains only two actors, each with an incredible of amount of dialogue and no costume or set changes during the show really showed their acting ability. Not a ghost story in the classical sense of being set on the Moors or involving white bedsheets, it keeps you guessing and waiting for the next scary tale………..one question remains…………………….do you believe in ghosts?[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
