Honest Burgers are bringing the flavours of South East Asia to the menu this August, with the launch of a limited-edition Singapore-themed burger.
Available at the Honest Burgers Cardiff restaurant on Church Street until the end of August, the Singapore special is an explosive original interpretation created in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board ahead of the country’s National Day on 9th August.
Inspired by a recent adventure to the country, the Singapore special puts an Honest Burgers twist on the traditional Zi Char – or ‘cook and fry’ – cuisine. The gourmet burger packs a punch thanks to the buttermilk cereal fried chicken thigh topped with American cheese and smacked cucumber pickles infused with tamarind, sambal confit garlic mayo, black beans and chilli.
As a refreshing accompaniment, the Singapore burger will also be paired with an exclusive craft beer. This time, Singaporean brewery Off Day Beer has teamed up with the UK’s Northern Monk to produce the 4th iteration of their Culinary Concepts 2.0 Patrons Project series, a refreshing and crisp lager-style Kolsch with lime zest and lemongrass, and with custom can graphics from Bbblob.
Adam Layton, Honest Burgers’ Head of Collaboration, said: “Earlier this year the Singapore Tourism Board invited us to Singapore to experience the local food culture and bring back a new special. We were very happy to oblige and soon got stuck into the nation’s rich food culture, composed mostly of Chinese, Malay and Indian influences.
“Over five days of eating we left few restaurants and hawker centres unturned and came home with a suitcase full of ideas, ingredients and local beers. We owe a debt of gratitude to Paul Liew, third generation owner of KEK Seafood who taught us how to cook cereal prawns, the genesis of our cereal fried chicken burger.”
Michael Rodriguez, Area Director Northern & Southwestern Europe, Singapore Tourism Board comments: “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Honest Burgers to bring a taste of Singapore to the UK. In Singapore, our cuisine is a key part of our national identity and at the heart of who we are. You are more likely to hear a Singaporean say, ‘have you eaten?’ than ‘how are you?’! I hope the new additions to the menu will whet people’s appetite and inspire them to travel to Singapore to further discover our diverse foodie scene.”
Honest Burgers’ Singapore special burger is available until the end of August for £14.00, along with Northern Monk and Off Day Beer’s Culinary Concepts 2.0 craft beer at £6.50.
